Trees are one of the most important display pieces in every Garden due to their size, presence, and impact on light levels. In this session, two horticulturalists who are experts at tree care will tackle two major issues in Public Gardens—construction and animal damage. Jeff Dice at Penn State University has developed tree protection plans effective at preserving trees during construction. Linda Post at San Diego Zoo Safari will discuss the task of maintaining a healthy tree collection in and around animal exhibits in zoos. Participants will come away with concepts they can incorporate at their gardens immediately to preserve these silent sentinels.
