This webinar will provide a general overview of the introduction, range, impact and possible management strategies for callery pear in the U.S. Callery pear is one of the most rapidly spreading invasive plants in the eastern U.S.  This plant stems from cultivars of ornamental pears, most commonly the Bradford pear. Callery pears can also easily be spread by birds and other wildlife. This invasive tree is aggressive and will invade disturbed areas and displace native plant communities throughout the southeastern US. Callery pear can have long thorns and grows singly or in thick patches in old fields, roadsides, or forested areas. These thorns often flatten tires of management tools, making it very difficult to control. Dr. David Coyle will take us through the history of this infestation and possible ways to mitigate and manage the spread of callery pear.
