Women landowners play an important role in stewarding America’s forestlands, yet traditional programs have fallen short of engaging this important audience. Significantly fewer women than men actively participate in the current management of their family’s land with women citing “lack of knowledge” as the primary barrier they face in land management. While traditional conferences and programs offer a way to overcome this barrier, women landowners are less likely to attend these programs because they feel those spaces are not an inclusive environment in which they can participate. As women become the primary decision makers for woodlands across the country, it is becoming increasingly important to design programs specifically for them.
