Mahan Rykiel Associates is pleased to announce that Scott C. Scarfone, ASLA, PLA has joined our landscape architectural team.
Scott C. Scarfone, ASLA, PLA, comes to Mahan Rykiel Associates with over thirty-years of a broad range of experience in design, planning, construction, and conservation. Scott has provided strategic and master planning to more than twenty botanic gardens nationwide including Longwood Gardens (PA), Desert Botanical Garden (AZ), Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens (PA), and Gardens of the Smithsonian Institution (DC). Advancing his pedagogy of planting design, Scott wrote the book Professional Planting Design: An Architectural and Horticultural Approach for Creating Mixed Bed Plantings (2007 Award of Merit, Maryland and Potomac Chapters of ASLA) which is used nationally in colleges and universities as a text. A leader in public horticulture, he has served actively in the American Public Gardens Association for the past twenty years in various capacities and has decades of volunteerism in appointed board positions at organizations such as American Society of Landscape Architects, Maryland Chapter of Trout Unlimited and the Center for Watershed Protection. As the founder and previous owner of Oasis Design Group, Scott has a diverse body of experience in both the private and public sector. Mahan Rykiel welcomes his ability to lead and mentor staff and grow our presence in the public garden realm, urban design and parks and open spaces.
