LONGVIEW, Texas (May 2026) – The Longview Arboretum and Nature Center has been awarded a Level I Accreditation by The ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program and The Morton Arboretum for achieving standards of professional practices deemed important for arboreta and botanical gardens.

The ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program is the only global initiative to officially recognize arboreta at various levels of development, capacity, and professionalism. The Longview Arboretum is now also recognized as an accredited arboretum in the Morton Register of Arboreta, a database of the world’s arboreta and gardens dedicated to woody plants.

Established to inspire a deeper appreciation for nature and conservation in East Texas, the Longview Arboretum is a growing public garden and educational destination located in Longview, Texas. The arboretum provides visitors with opportunities to experience the beauty of native and adapted plant collections, walking trails, educational programming, and community events designed to connect people of all ages with the natural world. Through its mission of education, conservation, and recreation, the arboretum serves as a valuable resource for the region and a place where nature and community come together.

Receiving Level I Accreditation from ArbNet is an important milestone for the Longview Arboretum. ArbNet is an interactive, collaborative, international community of arboreta. ArbNet facilitates the sharing of knowledge, experience, and other resources to help arboreta meet their institutional goals and works to raise professional standards through the ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program. The accreditation program, sponsored and coordinated by The Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois, in cooperation with the American Public Gardens Association and Botanic Gardens Conservation International, is the only global initiative to officially recognize arboreta based on a set of professional standards.
