Portland, OR — September 8, 2025 — Exactly 25 years ago this week, Lan Su Chinese Garden opened its gates, transforming a former parking lot into a world-class cultural landmark. To honor this milestone, the garden will host four days of anniversary celebrations, September 11–14, 2025, featuring rare Chinese opera performances by renowned Suzhou artists, throwback $6 admission, and community festivities including free cake and a dramatic lion dance atop jongs.
“Lan Su was built to honor Portland’s sister-city relationship with Suzhou, one of the world’s most famous garden cities,” said Elizabeth Nye, Executive Director of Lan Su Chinese Garden. “For 25 years, we’ve been a place where cultures and community were truly met and celebrated. This anniversary is not just a look back—it’s a moment to celebrate how far we’ve come and look forward to how Lan Su will continue to inspire future generations.”
Celebration Highlights
