Are you a strong leader, experienced in online retail or e-commerce, and committed to supporting the Gardens’ IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility) goals? We’re looking for a Gardenshop Webshop Manager excited about inspiring meaningful connections among people, plants, and nature in one of the most beautiful settings in Maine.
The Gardenshop Webshop Manager will support the mission of the Gardens by extending our reach beyond the physical bounds of the campus and into the larger world, providing guests with a thoughtfully curated collection of ethically sourced and sustainably produced goods that, whenever possible, uplift our vibrant community of local makers, especially those most impacted by inequity.
The Webshop Manager works to articulate messages from our horticultural, educational, and plant science initiatives through retail product. They identify messages, teachings, or events from Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens’s mission work that can be amplified through online merchandising and create supportive specialty shops. They manage the publication of all online merchandise, working with the Gardenshop Buyer to produce, edit, and upload photos and text. They work closely with Marketing and Communications to promote the shop online and advocate for the needs of this small business within a business. They also ensure fulfillment of all incoming orders and help guests with questions and site navigation. This effort results in a retail experience that generates meaningful financial support for the Gardens and our community.
Year-round, Full-time, Benefit eligible position
$50,000-55,000 salaried, exempt
Despite having a strong administrative component requiring time at a desk, this can be an active job as some handling of merchandise is necessary when picking and packing orders and every team member helps on the salesfloor when needed-sometimes up to eight hours of standing, walking, kneeling, squatting, bending and reaching up. This job requires standard visual acuity and the ability to operate a PC with or without accommodation.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Identify messages, teachings, themes and events from Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens’s mission that can be amplified by goods in the webshop. Merchandise specialty shops online that reflect and uplift this work.
- Manage the process and publication of goods online, collaborating with the Buyer for products, priorities, menu structure and more; engage other stakeholders as needed.
- Produce descriptive text and product photos; coordinate and edit database and POS updates ensuring adherence to Gardenshop standards; act as a gatekeeper to live publication.
- Meet sales goals by collaborating with the Communications and Marketing team to promote the webshop, our products, and our makers through multiple channels.
- Fill, pack, and ship all web orders, utilizing reclaimed packing material when possible.
- Provide an exceptional guest experience for web shoppers, answering questions about products and makers and helping them navigate our technology.
- Contribute to our commitment to continual improvement by advocating for needed tech, systems and staffing based on short- and long-term goals and by communicating feedback about products, the user experience, or other issues to the appropriate teammates.
- Ensure the sustainability of Gardenshop’s work by establishing and maintaining a system of documented standard operating principles and procedures that are scalable and repeatable.
- Participate in Gardens-wide initiatives, including Gardens Aglow assignments.
Education and Experience
- Three years of work history, life experience, and/or coursework managing a webshop product database or similar; photography and writing skills needed.
- The ability to learn new technology and a working knowledge of the MS Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, and photo editing software; some experience with POS systems helpful.
- An organized mindset, the ability to appreciate complexity, and patience for fine details are all good character traits for this work.
- Must like people, be adaptable, and have excellent communication skills; we work in a fast-paced environment, but this position is also good for someone who can work alone.
- Commitment to working across the organization to support the integration of IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility) principles into the Gardens’ internal operations and its relationships with visitors and guests.
