Salary Range:
$42,000.00 To $45,000.00 Annually
Position Overview:
The Trees Team Field Specialist is responsible for the planting and stewardship activities across PHS service territory with a focus on priority neighborhoods; ensure newly planted trees by PHS and partner orgs are properly cared for during establishment period; work with community groups and individuals in priority neighborhoods to carry out tree care activities, including watering, weeding, mulching, and pruning. The field specialist is also responsible for assisting the Field Operations Manager with pit cut marking, field surveys and data collection and administrative needs as necessary.
Primary Responsibilities:
Delivers, plants, prunes, inventories, monitors, waters and cares for community trees throughout PHS service area, including structural pruning and establishment maintenance of PHS-planted trees.
Operates trucks, trailers, hand and power tools to plant and care for trees. Keeps team tools and vehicles regularly maintained. Always follows safety standards while operating equipment.
Works with and provides technical instruction to community and workforce development organizations on tree care activities (focus on watering, mulching, weeding, pruning, and related tasks).
Works with Tree Tender Leaders and other community groups in field-related work, including assistance with canvassing efforts in priority areas.
Carries out tree planting and pit cut surveys at yard and street tree sites; adjusts site planting plans as needed.
Identifies tree care needs and opportunities, especially in priority communities.
Works with volunteers and community partners to provide technical assistance and oversight during tree planting and maintenance workdays/events.
Provides support for Workforce Development trainees participating in on-the-job training programs.
Assists Field Operations Manager in monitoring and documenting the work of contractors and volunteers.
Provides administrative support to field operations manager for reporting, data management and correspondence.
Ensures data collection for tree planting, monitoring, and maintenance activities is collected efficiently and with attention to detail using PHS data management and mapping software. Submit reports on a consistent basis to Field Operations manager.

Qualifications/Specifications:
Minimum degree required:

Years of experience:
One year of experience working in arboriculture, horticulture, or landscaping
Licenses/Certifications:
ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) arborist certification a plus but not required
Tree Tenders’ certification is preferred, or can be obtained within 6 months of hire
Driver’s License:
Required
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities required for success:
Demonstrated interest in horticultural, landscaping, forestry, urban forestry, or related field
Experience with structural tree pruning is a plus, but training can be provided
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with community groups
Experience working with volunteers and organizing community service projects.
Diplomatic with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines with a shifting workload in a fast-paced environment.
High-level attention to detail.
Excellent influential, collaborative, and relationship building skills.
Experience with data quality control, as well as data and mapping software; GIS and Microsoft Excel a plus.
Experience in field data collection, strongly preferred.
Tree identification, a plus.
Physical Demands:
Physically demanding. You may be required to stand for up to 8 hours a day and lift 50+ lbs. Must be able to work in all weather conditions and your position may require operating a motor vehicle.
Standard Hours (including travel, evening, and weekend hours): PHS’s standard office hours are 9 AM to 5 PM at team member’s designated workspace. Some teams and positions work alternate hours because of the nature of their role at PHS. Your Business Unit’s Working Norms document will identify alternative hours, if applicable.
Flower Show Requirements: Hours preparing for the show and the duration of the show may not follow your regular work schedule. Your Flower Show schedule will depend upon your regular position or your temporary position supporting the Flower Show. You may be required to stand for long periods of time, do extensive walking, and lift up to 25 pounds.
