ROLE SUMMARY – TREE AND SHRUB BUYER
Procure plant material for landscape projects and company inventory. Responsible for all aspects of product including cost/margin, shipping, pricing, and locating the best quality plants based on the needs of the company. Direct the care of plant material on job sites, inventory areas and nursery farms.

Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
• Plant knowledge. (Deep knowledge of tree and shrub variety).
• Fast paced, quick turnaround for information.
• Responsible for establishing and maintaining network relationships with nursery growers throughout the country.
• Responsible for maintaining quality control of nursery product.
• Responsible for managing budgets.
• Responsible for communicating with landscape project managers, designers, and sales associates relating to availability, plant sizing and appearance and cost along with other topics.
• Understanding pre-orders and procedure.
• Responsible for locating plant requests within the United States.
• Responsible for coordinating all aspects of freight relating to nursery stock including direct shipping to projects.
• Responsible for managing inventory, which includes conducting physical inventory counts.
• Involved with nursery farm and directing overall care and planting and digging.
• Supervise personnel receiving plants.
• Meeting Accounting needs in a timely manner.
• Responsible for following PO system procedure.
• Oversee SKU development & organization.
• Involved in maintaining accurate records of all purchases.
• Consistently have discussions regarding buying trends with multiple individuals in the company.
• Extensive travel throughout the United States.
• Flexible work schedule but will need to be available on weekends, as needed.
• Sense of urgency relating to landscape projects and client needs.
• Compliance with all of our company policies & procedures.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Forestry, Business Administration, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
• Proven experience in tree and shrub procurement, arboriculture, or related roles within the landscaping industry.
• Exceptional negotiation skills with a track record of securing advantageous supplier agreements.
• Deep knowledge of tree and shrub species, growth characteristics, and best practices in tree and shrub cultivation and maintenance.
• Strong analytical abilities to assess supplier performance, market trends, and cost-effectiveness.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and engage with external stakeholders.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Commitment to sustainability and ethical business practices in tree and shrub sourcing and procurement.

Additional Information

• Willingness to travel extensively to visit tree and shrub nurseries, attend industry events and build supplier relationships.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing market conditions and project requirements.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines without compromising quality standards.
• Proficiency in relevant software tools for data analysis, procurement management, and supplier relationship tracking.

Salary from $185,00 – $250,000 commensurate with experience.
