Job Description

This internship provides instruction and hands-on athletic field maintenance experience working on four high school fields. Interns will work Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm.

The Washington National Cathedral, along with St. Albans School, National Cathedral School, and Beauvoir, The National Cathedral Elementary School, is located on a campus of 57 acres of landscaped grounds in the heart of the nation’s Capital. More information can be found at pecf.org

Duties & Responsibilities

Under the Assistant Director, interns will participate in implementing turf maintenance program for the Cathedral Close and work with the groundskeeper/turf crew to ensure superior turf and proper maintenance. Activities are coordinated with/between the athletic departments to ensure playing surfaces are game ready. Technical assistance provided on all proper turf practices and overseeing the IPM program for turf.

Education and Experience

Preference will be given to applicants who are pursuing a degree in turfgrass management, horticulture, sport management, or a related field. Applicants must be able to work outside in inclement weather such as rain and extreme heat, must be able to perform physical work including bending, stooping, reaching, and standing for extended periods of time, must be able to lift, carry, and push at least 30 lbs.

Additional Information

Housing is not provided and there is no housing allowance. The internship is 12 weeks, with flexible start and end dates. May through August preferred. Must pass a background check including criminal history and reference checks.
