Job Description

The Membership Manager is the primary representative of the Garden’s membership program. This position directs the strategies and implementation of a comprehensive multi-channel membership program focused on growth of new members, retention of current members, re-enrolling lapsed members, and upgrading of membership categories. This position will work closely with a variety of Garden departments, specifically Visitor Experience and other members of the External Relations team. Position reports to External Relations Director.

Pittsburgh Botanic Garden spans 65 acres of cultivated gardens and woodlands, offering distinctive spaces for visitors to engage with plants. Located just a short drive from Downtown Pittsburgh, the Garden features lush landscapes, stunning scenery, and beautiful blooms from the Allegheny Plateau. It is the perfect place to connect, explore, and find renewal through nature.

Duties & Responsibilities

Manage and grow a comprehensive membership program that supports new and existing membership initiatives for the acquisition of new members, the renewal of current members, and the return of lapsed members.
Implement best strategies in stewardship, renewal and upgrading of current members, acquiring new members, and visitor conversion.
Design and implement membership events, including exhibition openings, Garden programs, and members-only events.
Evaluate effectiveness of current membership program services, benefits, and policies, relating to retention and acquisition of members on a regular basis. Recommend, design, and implement changes to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
Write and refresh member renewal letters, acknowledgements, and welcome series regularly.
Work collaboratively with Communications Manager to appropriately create and integrate membership messaging in publications, website, and collateral materials.
Generate reports to measure results of campaigns, and overall membership retention and growth. Monitor progress towards revenue goal and review with External Relations Director.

Education and Experience

A four-year college degree, or relevant experience
Experience with nonprofit membership administration, marketing, and relationship building techniques
Highly developed understanding of database systems; Altru or Blackbaud experience preferred
Knowledge of digital membership platform, Social Good Software preferred
Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
Strong written and oral communication skills
Clearance of background security checks

Additional Information

Work Conditions

Primarily office work conditions, occasionally conducting Garden tours for members/donors (individual or group)
Typically this is a 40-hour workweek position, however flexible hours are required for Garden related functions
Must be able to sit for extended periods of time, traverse moderate site conditions of the Garden, and be computer proficient
