Job Description
The Janet and Adolph Rosengarten Chanticleer Internship is a 6–9-month opportunity for select individuals to intensively deepen their understanding of the art of horticulture. Chanticleer is a plant-driven, highly aesthetic 50-acre public garden with the unofficial motto, “beauty without bureaucracy”. Chanticleer is a small, lean organization that institutes high standards across the organization.
Chanticleer interns will work side by side alongside the Chanticleer Horticulture staff, who are the primary designers for their section. Emphasis on direct interaction between top management and garden staff is also extended to interns. In this hands-on experience, interns will also participate in weekly plant identification classes, monthly field trips, numerous professional events, and independent study in the garden.
About Us
Chanticleer is one of the newest and most visually exciting gardens in the Philadelphia area, known as America’s Garden Capital. A mile-long path meanders over 35 acres of themed areas featuring hardy and non-hardy perennials. The former Rosengarten estate opened to the public in 1993 and continues to evolve with contemporary design complementing historic terraces, sweeps of lawn, and magnificent trees. Chanticleer is a study of textures and forms, where foliage trumps flowers, the gardeners lead the design, and even the drinking fountains are sculptural. Learn more at chanticleergarden.org.
Duties & Responsibilities

The main focus of the internship is to gain hands-on horticultural maintenance experience, study plants, plant care, design and garden management. Interns will rotate through each section of the garden and perform duties specific to each area, observe the dynamic of the staff, garden guests, and managers, and they will interact with the Grounds Manager and Executive Director.
