Job Description

We are seeking a Horticulturist to join our team here in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and managing horticultural standards, landscape maintenance, and garden displays across various property types.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a high level of horticultural standards and practices for a range of property typologies- (commercial, hospitality, master-planned community, private and public botanical gardens).
  • Design and install permanent and seasonal garden displays by researching plant selections, preparing plants, submitting order requests, and drafting purchase orders.
  • Develop property landscape maintenance schedules and integration of specialized horticultural practices into this scheduling process.
  • Provide direction, training, and motivation to the existing landscape staff.
  • Participate in departmental landscape meetings ensuring works abide by the company standards and safety requirements.
  • Provide horticultural information to visitors, install labels, maintain records, develop interpretive signage, and provide tours of company owned properties.
  • Occasional travel to oversee horticultural practices on company owned properties overseas.

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, botany, natural sciences or related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ of experience as a professional Horticulturist.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ of supervising and managing staff in a horticultural environment.
  • Experience working in an accredited Botanical Garden
  • A solid understanding of sub-tropical and tropical plant material in USDA hardiness Zones- 10b-13
  • Experience working with rare and endemic plant species of the Caribbean and Cayman Islands in particular.
  • A hands-on approach to creating practical design solutions for projects ranging from small-scale designs to large-scale commercial projects.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience of the landscape design process.
  • Effective project management, teamwork and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and landscape design programs such as Land F/X, AutoCAD
