Job Description
The grower, under the direction of the greenhouse manager, uses best practices to grow , plant and maintain ground cover and annual plant material used on Newton Cemetery grounds and landscapes.

About Newton Cemetery & Arboretum- This historic cemetery is located at 791 Walnut st in Newton Ma. An active cemetery and accredited arboretum, it is a non-profit Massachusetts corporation founded in 1855 . Its mission is to operate and maintain a garden type cemetery into the indefinite future for people of all faiths.
Duties & Responsibilities
-Basic routine care includes hand watering, fertilizing, plants
– starting annuals from seeds/plugs, growing to a quality finished product.
-Managing greenhouse pests using IPM practices, including bio control and conventional chemicals when needed.
– Identify different plant species and understand their specific care requirements
– Supervise seasonal crew , under the direction of the Greenhouse Manager to care for our 1,000 flower beds and over 500 ground cover beds.
Education and Experience
– 3 years minimum of growing bedding annuals ( begonias, geraniums , new guineas etc)
– Proficiency in plant identification and care techniques
– Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
– Familiarity with heavy lifting requirements in agricultural setting
– Knowledge of IPM, using Bio controls but familiar and will to use
conventional chemicals if need.
-cat. 26 Pesticide license ( or to obtain one within the first year of employment)
Additional Information
Pay :$28 hr
Hours : 7am- 3pm Monday- Friday with some weekend overtime as needed
