About Us

The Sawtooth Botanical Garden is a community resource showcasing native and cultivated plants that flourish at high altitude. The Garden connects people to the region’s unique beauty and fosters environmental stewardship through education, events, displays and plant collections. Our 5-acre property in the beautiful Wood River Valley of Idaho attracts locals and tourists from all over the world.

Also on site is the Garden of Infinite Compassion which hosts a large Tibetan prayer wheel gifted and blessed by HH Dalai Lama.

Duties & Responsibilities

Essential Job Duties:
• Ensure the vision and mission is carried out for all aspects of the organization
• Responsible for effective fundraising for the Garden, along with participation from the Board. Cultivate and steward donors, engage sponsors, develop partnerships with businesses, etc.
• Maintain budgets and expenses to achieve organizational fiscal goals
• Ensure effective communication among Board, staff, Ambassadors Council, volunteers and donors
• Work with Board to develop, update and execute annual and strategic planning
• Plan, organize, market and run key events, in coordination with committees and staff, to meet specified goals including fundraising and community outreach
• Research, identify and write grants to support mission, site and program needs
• Serve on and report to key and ad hoc committees
• Serve as a spokesperson for the garden, maintaining good working relationships with necessary agencies and vendors.
• Supervise staff while promoting a positive staff culture with a systems view and a team-player approach
• Travel as necessary to promote the Garden.
• Perform essential administrative duties – renewing contracts, payroll, insurance, A/P, monthly financial reporting, etc.

Education and Experience

Preferred Education/Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent experience, in non-profit administration, horticulture, or related field.
• Minimum of two years of experience in non-profit administration, donor development, and strategic planning.
• A proven track record of excellent fiscal management, Board development, staff supervision and site management.

Additional Information

Language Ability:
• Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from internal and external customers, or members of the business community.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently. Ability to speak and write in Spanish is helpful, but not required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Computer/Technology Skills:
• Microsoft Office Suite & Google Drive
• Website content maintenance – Squarespace, Square
• Database software, including donor/volunteer management software
• QuickBooks – non-profit edition

Physical Abilities:
• Has the ability to push, pull and/or lift 50 pounds during working hours
• Must be able to stand, bend, kneel, twist, squat

Duties/Responsibilities: Other duties as assigned.

Benefits:
• $70,000-$90,000 annual salary, depending on experience
