Job Description

The Events Coordinator is responsible for planning, communicating, executing and evaluating a portfolio of Dow Gardens’ special events and programs. This role requires a creative, solutions-oriented professional who is comfortable challenging the status quo, streamlining processes and improving outcomes. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with internal teams, volunteers, community partners and vendors to ensure events are mission-driven, financially responsible and executed with excellence.

About Us

Since being established in 1899, as a home for Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow and family, the 110-acre Dow Gardens now welcomes more than 200,000 guests per year. Visitors are invited to leave the pathway and explore the uniquely designed landscape, take a tour of the historic Pines Home, participate in one of many hands-on educational programs, stroll the nation’s longest canopy walk, and discover beautiful art and music in a relaxed setting.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, coordination and delivery of signature events (Butterflies in Bloom, Halloween Hike, Lunchtime Concerts, Christmas Walk, art exhibits, etc.)
• Develop concepts, themes, schedules, scripts and logistical plans for events and serve as an onsite lead during events ensuring smooth execution and effective problem solving
• Incorporate trends in public gardens, museums and cultural institutions to remain relevant, profitable and engaging
• Identify opportunities for new events or seasonal experiences aligned with our mission and audience to increase guest satisfaction
• Secure vendors, performers and partners, while managing contracts and logistics including budgets, timelines and operational plans
• Prioritize a welcoming, inclusive and memorable experience for all guests

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Event Management, Hospitality, Marketing, Recreation or a related field; or equivalent experience
• 2+ years of experience in event planning, program coordination, or visitor experience roles (experience in cultural institutions, public gardens, nonprofits, or attractions preferred)
• Demonstrated creativity and ability to reimagine established events; proven record of conceptualizing and implementing new ideas
• Strong problem-solving abilities and confidence in making decisions under pressure
• Excellent communication, organization and time management skills
• Ability to work collaboratively across departments
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and extended hours during key events
