Job Description

This position will serve as a key contributor to the edible horticultural elements of educational programming at Hershey Gardens. Under the direction of the Director of Horticultural Operations the incumbent will assist in developing and maintaining indoor and outdoor edible garden displays.

About Us

Hershey Gardens opened in 1937 with Milton Hershey’s request to “create a nice garden of roses.” More than 85 years later, the small rose garden has blossomed into 23 acres of botanical beauty providing visitors with unique experiences and enriching opportunities.

Overlooking the town of Hershey, Hershey Gardens features brilliant seasonal displays and theme gardens, an indoor, tropical Butterfly Atrium inside the Milton & Catherine Hershey Conservatory, and a hands-on Children’s Garden.

Duties & Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for all aspects of the Hoop House and Student Garden to include maintenance of existing displays, and assisting the Manager of Education and Public Programs with development and execution of educational programs therein. Key to success would include working as part of a team to include horticulturists, educators, special event coordinators and Butterfly Atrium staff to successfully meet the mission of Hershey Gardens. Performs all facets of gardening/maintenance tasks at Hershey Gardens as well as other Foundation entities, if required, as directed by the Director of Horticultural Operations or Horticulture Manager.

Education and Experience

Applicants are required to have documented training in horticulture, related studies or a minimum of two (2) years of work in horticulture at a professional level. Continuing education courses in horticulture or a related field helpful. Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Additional Information

Candidates must be able to operate various garden-related machinery and equipment including snow removal equipment, test and successfully obtain a Pennsylvania Commercial Applicators license within 3 months of hire, and consistently represent Hershey Gardens in a positive and professional manner.
