Tulsa Botanic Garden is looking for a dynamic Director of Operations to oversee and maintain the 170 acres of the Garden and the maintenance and repair of the buildings and equipment. We are looking for a positive, team-focused person with a willingness to take the initiative.
The Director of Operations will be responsible for all day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of the physical infrastructures and the developed and undeveloped areas of the property therefore minor electrical, mechanical and plumbing skills will be required.
Tulsa Botanic Garden is an all-season oasis blooming in the Osage Hills northwest of Tulsa. Encompassing 170 acres, our 2012 Master Plan, developed with StudioOutside, 3.fromme Design, and Howell & Vancurren, calls for development of 70 acres into world-class gardens surrounding our 7-acre lake. The additional 100 acres will be managed to highlight the native Cross Timbers ecosystem, highlighting native prairie and forest.
The A.R. and Marylouise Tandy Floral Terraces, the first garden from the master plan, opened in 2015 and features over 8,000 plants with seasonal beds, beautiful art deco designs and water features, and a spectacular spring display of over 100,000 bulbs. Our 2-acre Children’s Discovery Garden opened in 2016, followed by construction and opening of our Mabee Grange Event Building. The Bumgarner Family Foundation Lotus Pool and Stanford Family Liberty Garden opened in July 2023. Construction for our 2-acre Bost Arboretum begins January 2024.

Duties & Responsibilities
Job Duty Highlights:
• Work with CEO to continue the maintenance and development of the Tulsa Botanic Garden while adhering to the design intents
• Coordinate with Curators regarding Garden repairs and maintenance
• Work with Development and Events teams regarding scheduled events
• Communicate with all departments on projects and repairs
• Build and maintain relationships with contractors and vendors
• Obtain bids for projects and services
Education and Experience
Job Qualifications and Highlights:
• Minimum of 1-2 years of leadership experience
• Microsoft and Windows proficiency
• General horticulture and landscape management knowledge
• General construction knowledge and trade skills
• Small equipment operation and maintenance experience, including tractors and brush hogs
• Motivated, organized and detail oriented
• Proven leader, teacher and learner
• Willing to the initiative and use ingenuity
• Valid Driver’s License
• Valid Oklahoma Pesticide Applicators License
Working Conditions and Environmental Exposures:
The position will at times be a seated, indoor office position with intermitted standing and walking. At other times this position will be an active, outdoor position that will include repetitive bending, stooping and squatting with occasional climbing, kneeling or crawling. General duties of the position will require manual dexterity such as grabbing, twisting and digging as well as the ability to handle small seeds and manipulate and operate hand tools. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will have exposure to outside weather conditions and uneven, unpaved terrain. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but could be very loud depending on the task (appropriate PPE should be properly worn during the tasks). The employee will be asked to lift and move 50+ pounds.
