June 18, 2022—The Hoyt Arboretum (Portland, OR) welcomes Colah B Tawkin to plant an American Persimmon tree on Friday, June 24 at 2:00pm — part of her effort to plant native and female trees in every state. Colah started the Underground Arborist 501(c)3 at the top of 2022 in Nashville, TN, with a desire to engage BIPOC communities who are disproportionately affected by the climate crisis. Her Hoyt Arboretum planting will be the first on the west coast, performed in conjunction with the week-long American Public Gardens Association Annual Conference, CommUNITY of Gardens. Known for her Black in the Garden podcast, Tawkin will be joined by Hoyt Arboretum Curator Martin Nicholson and Portland Parks Director Adena Long. The importance of the tree and its unique origin will be revealed.
Join us on June 24 to find out where the tree’s seed was found!
