From the Ground Up

October 9-12, 2018 | Tulsa, OK and Bentonville, AR
Hosted by: Tulsa Botanic Garden and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art

Tulsa Botanic Garden and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art

This year’s symposium, “From the Ground Up” is focused on practical approaches to resolving issues that all gardens, whether big, small, new or historic need to successfully address in order to achieve excellence in operations and displays. The presentations will highlight current trends, strategies, and philosophies addressing a wide range of topics such as organic gardening, parking, garden renovations, disaster response, gardening and educating with native plants, prescribed burning, new insect pests, and infrastructure maintenance. Gardens that can improve their operational systems and strategic approaches related to these topics can better deliver upon their mission statements and provide a more aesthetic, safe, educational, and pleasing experience for visitors.

Symposium attendees will receive a distinctive cultural experience and in-depth profile of two of the country’s newest public gardens.  Situated in the tall grass prairies of Oklahoma, Tulsa Botanic Garden (TBG) is fast becoming an essential destination for its local residents to discover the wonders of horticulture, set juxtaposed to striking natural beauty. Tulsa, ranked in the Top Ten Best Cities by Resonance Consultancy, is a vibrant metropolis with a rich heritage – from Indian Territory to oil boom town – and thirst to build a modern cosmopolitan city.  A true cultural gem of the Ozarks, the mission of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is to unite the power of art with the beauty of nature, which it accomplishes with breath-taking sculptures and walking trails linking the Museum's 120-acre park to downtown Bentonville, Arkansas. By combining art, architecture, and nature attendees are guaranteed an exceptionally unique experience at both destinations.
