Dorothea ColemanLongtime Public Garden Managing Editor Dorothea Coleman officially retired from the Association on Friday, July 11 – the week of her 12th anniversary.

As Managing Editor of Public Garden, the Association’s journal she set the schedule and ensured that everything comes together in a timely fashion. She managed the Editorial Advisory Group and (frequently) was responsible for ad sales. Responsible for proofreading both the magazine and many Association communications, Dorothea rigidly enforced the Chicago Manual of Style, the proper use of em dashes, and the Oxford comma.

Originally retained as an outside contractor, Dorothea officially joined the staff of the Association in 2022.

Prior positions were Editorial Consultant for Public Garden and editor of the newsletter of the Friends of University of Michigan Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum.

She lives in Michigan with her husband.
