PALO ALTO, CA – February 21, 2025 – Elizabeth F. Gamble Garden is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2025, marking four decades of horticultural education, historic preservation, and community engagement. Since its founding in 1985, Gamble Garden has provided free, year-round public access to its 2.5-acre historic property, welcoming thousands of visitors annually and serving as a hub for gardening education, events, and volunteerism.
Originally the estate of Elizabeth F. Gamble, granddaughter of the Procter & Gamble founder, the property was transformed into a public garden and nonprofit organization through the leadership of the Garden Club of Palo Alto and the support of the City of Palo Alto. Over the past four decades, Gamble Garden has grown into a beloved local institution, offering a diverse range of programs, including horticultural education, seasonal festivals, garden tours, and a robust volunteer program.
A Year of Celebration
To commemorate this milestone, Gamble Garden is hosting a series of special events and exhibits throughout 2025, honoring its history and looking ahead to the next 40 years. Key highlights include:
● The Gamble Timeline Exhibit – A rotating outdoor display along the garden’s green lattice fence showcasing key moments from Gamble Garden’s history.
● Anniversary Celebration Events – Member receptions and community gatherings
● 40th Anniversary Spring Tour – Our annual garden tour showcasing five spectacular private gardens on April 25-26, 2025.
● Educational Programs – New workshops, lectures, and hands-on gardening experiences for visitors of all ages.
● Anniversary Party – Join us for a joyous fundraising dinner on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at a private home.
A Vision for the Next 40 Years
As visitation and community engagement continue to grow, Gamble Garden remains committed to preserving its historic charm while evolving to meet the needs of future generations. With plans for improved facilities and expanded educational programming, Gamble Garden aims to deepen its role as a horticultural and educational resource for Palo Alto and beyond.
“For 40 years, Gamble Garden has been a place of beauty, learning, and connection, thanks to the generosity of our members, volunteers, and supporters,” said Mica Pirie, Executive Director. “We look forward to celebrating this milestone with the community and shaping the future of Gamble together.”
