Charlottesville, VA (September 10, 2025) – The Botanical Garden of the Piedmont has reached a major milestone in its capital campaign, securing more than $10 million in donor commitments toward the creation of Central Virginia’s future botanical garden.

With construction set to begin next year, this achievement marks a pivotal moment for the project, which has been shaped by nearly a decade of community input.

“There has never been a more exciting time to support the Garden,” said Kelley MacDougall, Campaign Co-Chair and Board Member. “Shovels are going in the ground next year, and every gift from now until then will determine the Garden we’re able to build.”

The campaign has received support from individuals, families, and foundations across the region, including a recent matching grant from The Mary Morton Parsons Foundation.

“We are deeply grateful to the generous donors who have brought us to this point,” said Pam Edmonds, Campaign Co-Chair and Board Member. “Their support shows confidence in what we’re building, from spaces where people can learn and gather, to native gardens that celebrate the beauty of this region.”

The Garden’s Design Committee – comprised of architects, landscape architects, developers, and community leaders – meets regularly with their landscape architecture firm Waterstreet Studio, building architects Maryann Thompson Architects, and project partners to finalize a design that
will serve diverse community needs while celebrating the beauty of the Piedmont.

“The design reflects the creativity and care of the many people who have contributed thousands of hours to this effort,” said Jill Trischman-Marks, Executive Director. “We are proud of the garden we are growing together.”

The Botanical Garden will begin unveiling updated renderings this fall, and public tours are offered regularly for those interested in learning more. Visit piedmontgarden.org to sign up for the Garden’s newsletter and view upcoming programs and events.
