The Atlanta Botanical Garden has named veteran horticulturist Amanda Campbell Bennett as its new Vice President, Horticulture and Collections.
Bennett joined the Garden in 2002 as a horticulturist and three years later was named its Manager of Display Gardens, supervising a team of horticulturists in the design, development and maintenance of outdoor plant displays.
In her new senior-level position, Bennett will oversee the development and enhancement of the Garden’s prestigious collections of both indoor and outdoor plants managed by 33 professional horticulturists. In addition, she will oversee the landscape design of 30 acres of gardens as well as displays in the Fuqua Conservatory and Orchid Center, ensuring that horticulture enhances and complements the Garden’s recurring art exhibitions.
“Amanda has the perfect leadership skills to take our talented team of horticulturists and curators to the next level of excellence,” said Mary Pat Matheson, the Garden’s President & CEO. “She is one of the South’s most knowledgeable horticulturists, has years of experience blending the art and science of horticulture into beautiful garden displays, and balances collections and exhibitions in a way that is unique to the Garden.”
A native of Madison, GA, Bennett received her bachelor’s degree in horticulture at the University of Georgia and completed an internship at Chicago Botanic Garden before joining the Atlanta garden.
“We have an unbelievably talented and knowledgeable horticulture department here – indoor and outdoor – and I know that leading us in the future will be a rewarding experience,” she said.
